Scratchboard is a technique where drawings are created using sharp tools for etching into a thin layer of white clay that is coated with black India ink. Scratchboard illustration can be used to yield highly detailed, precise and even textured artwork. Here are a few of my pieces.
When asked to do a solo gallery exhibit, with only two weeks notice and not enough new pieces to show, I knew that I would have to find inspiration close to home… fast. That inspiration came in the form of my daughter. Tired of the standard portrayal of children-as-angels, I chose to depict the true nature of the 2 year old; racous, manipulative, and tough. These pieces were drawn with pen, ink and markers, then scanned into Photoshop where the color, texture, and distressing was completed.
